Effect of Ondoy in Emmanuel Child Development Center

October 16, 2009

Deac. Mila Cortez, a long-time deaconess and member of the IRM Council of Elders, was one of those greatly affected by Typhoon Ondoy. Flood reached 7-feet deep in 41 BMW Street, Village East, Cainta, Rizal where both her house and school is located – the Emmanuel Child Development Center. The classrooms, including the tables, books, teaching aids, etc, were damaged beyond recovery.

Below is a letter of appeal for assistance from Deac. Mila, including a list of things they need. There are also pictures taken in their village and in front of the school after the flood has subsided.

If you wish to send assistance, you may email Deac. Mila at milaecortez@yahoo.com.ph or Bishop Rey Domingo at bishopreydomingo@yahoo.com.

07 October 2009

Warm greetings in the Name of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ!

We, the administrator, teachers and pupils of Emmanuel Child Development Center (ECDC), are praising and thanking the Lord for His protection to us from the recent calamity last September 26, 2009. Thank God our lives were spared by Typhoon Ondoy, however the 7 feet-deep flood brought by the said typhoon left our school devastating damage, especially since Cainta was one of the greatly affected areas by the said calamity. Our classrooms, which include tables, pupils’ learning materials, teaching aids, toys, books and others, were all damaged and cannot be recovered anymore.

It is a blessing to see our pupils and teachers back in school again last Monday, October 5. But it deeply saddens us to see them with no teaching and learning materials to use.

It is in this light that we are seeking your generosity by possibly donating toys, books and other learning materials for ECDC. We have included in this letter the list of materials that the school badly needs. You may pray for them and freely choose which of those you may want and are able to donate.

As prayer is the best defense in all circumstances, we also believe that God uses people so that His provision will reach His people who are in great need. We are expectant that we (teachers, pupils and the entire school) will be able to cope well with the circumstances as we await for the help and assistance that are coming from people like you.

We thank the Lord for His faithfulness through you and your families. Your helping hand will come a long way in rebuilding God’s mission point through this school – the ECDC.

Again, our appreciation and deep gratitude for your concern, love, generosity, and availability to minister to us who were greatly affected by the national calamity.

May our Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, bless you a thousandfold!

Yours in the ministry,

Deac. Mila E. Cortez

Outpouring of Support for IRM Ondoy Victims

October 15, 2009

“Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.” Philippians 1:3

There has been a heartwarming outpouring of support for IRM members and churches who have been severely affected by Typhoon Ondoy, especially those in NCR District 1. Other IRM churches and members who were not affected by the typhoon hastened to bring food, used clothes and other relief goods. Some even gave financial assistance or helped in cleaning up churches and houses which were left with mud once the flood has subsided.

Churches from other countries such as the UK, USA, Singapore, Canada and Australia have also sent money and balikbayan boxes containing much needed supplies. We will feature some of these relief efforts in the coming days. But for now, we would like to offer thanks to our Lord for their kindness. May God bless you!
