Divine Appointments Lead to Mission Efforts in Rizal

December 6, 2010

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?

And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?

And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Romans 10:14

With God, there is truly no such thing as an accident.

Sometime last year, Bishop Reynaldo Domingo and his driver, Bro. Jerry, were on their way home from Bicol when their vehicle broke down, leaving them stranded in a poor area in Halayhayin, Pililla, Rizal. A kind old woman invited them to come inside their family’s shanty but Bishop Rey begged off, not wanting to inconvenience her.

After some time, it started to rain hard, and the old woman once again invited Bishop Rey and Bro. Jerry to come inside since they were now unable to stay inside the vehicle. This time, they gratefully accepted the offer, and were even asked by three middle-aged men to join in on their drinking session. Bishop Rey thanked them and tactfully refused, saying that he was a pastor. He also mentioned that in case there were sick people in the area, he was willing to pray for them since the Lord has graciously given him the gift of healing.

Upon hearing this, a mother brought over her sick infant, who was instantly healed by the Lord after Bishop Rey’s prayer. In a short span of time, a queue began to form composed of sick people asking for prayers. Around 40 people were healed miraculously by the Lord that night.

Bishop Rey had to stay at the shanty for the rest of the night since the mechanic could only come in the morning. What would seem to be an accident was in fact a divine appointment, as this became the beginning of mission efforts in Pililla.

Feeling a deep burden to bring the people to God and to help alleviate poverty in this place, Bishop Rey returned several times, bringing groceries and other forms of help, and praying over the sick. The members of IRM Cainta supported him and would sometimes join him when he visited the area.

Another mission point was also launched in Sipsipin, Jala-jala, Rizal, which is 7 to 10 kilometers away from Halayhayin, Pililla, Rizal. It all began when Bishop Rey and Ptra. Lualhati visited IRM Macau a few years ago, where he also had a healing ministry. He learned that the son of one of the members of IRM Macau was sick, but the doctors could not ascertain his illness. The mother asked Bishop Rey to visit her son who lives in Sipsipin, Jala-Jala, Rizal (about 56 kilometers away from Bishop Rey’s house in Cainta, Rizal) once he returns to the Philippines.

Bishop Rey obliged and visited the son soon after to pray for his healing. The Lord answered his prayer and the son was miraculously healed. Afterwards, Bishop Rey shared the Gospel to the people there, and around eight people accepted the Lord.

Bishop Rey returned to IRM Macau a few months ago, where he found out from the mother that the son has been well for years, but the eldest daughter was demon-possessed. Upon his return to the Philippines, Bishop Rey went to visit the daughter along with Rev. Ruben Rubio of IRM Cainta and Rev. Edwin Manganti of IRM Baguio. They prayed for her healing, which the Lord graciously answered, and shared the Gospel to the people around. Several people accepted the Lord on that day.

Afterwards, Bishop Rey asked Rev. Rubio if he was willing to take over the mission efforts in Sipsipin as well as in Halayhayin, to which he readily agreed. When he presented this to the board of IRM Cainta, they also unanimously agreed to adopt these places as mission points for the church and began to organize mission efforts every Saturday.

Members of IRM Cainta, from children to senior citizens, would leave early every Saturday morning to visit Halayhayin and Sipsipin, bringing bread and juice. Some would be assigned to teach the children, who do not even have seats while they are listening to Bible stories and would merely sit on the ground. Some would lead Bible study groups for men, women and youths. Some would knock on doors of every house to share the Gospel to the people inside.

Here is a short video to show us how the mission efforts are paying off.

It is our dream to eventually build an IRM church in this area, but we need your financial support. If you would like to help the mission efforts and livelihood assistance in Halayhayin, Pililia, Rizal and Sipsipin, Jala-jala, Rizal, please send an email to bishopreydomingo(at)yahoo.com.

STILL: IRM’s 18th Anniversary Celebration

March 15, 2010

Last March 13, 2010 (Saturday), IRM celebrated its 18th Anniversary Celebration from eight in the morning until about one in the afternoon at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City. The first part of the celebration started with an audio-visual presentation showing major events that happened in the Philippines for the past year, including such unsettling occurences like Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng, as well as the Maguindanao massacre. The AVP ended with a reminder for us to be STILL before the Lord.

After the AVP, the IRM Performing Arts Ministry (PAM) led the congregation in singing the National Anthem, which was followed by “Kabanal-Banalan” to signal the processional of the IRM Council of Elders and District Administrators. Rev. Reynaldo Salazar led the congregation in the opening prayer, which was followed by the praise and worship segment led by Ptr. Jayson Igloria and the Performing Arts Ministry (PAM).

Bro. Zosimo Cruz, one of the lay members of the Council of Elders, read Psalm 46:1-10 to the congregation. Verse 10 is the basis for this year’s theme – “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” The Bible reading was followed by a special number from the choir of Minuyan IRM Church.

Bishop Reynaldo Domingo delivered his message entitled “Be Still and Know that I Am God,” where he talked about the historical events in the Bible when these words were used. He reminded the congregation that the same promise is applicable to Christians today, and encouraged everyone to be still before the Lord.

The message was followed by a dance number (“Still” by Hillsongs) and a song number (“Si Hesus”) by IRM Marikina. The offering was collected afterwards, with Bro. Efren Gungon leading the group in prayer. This was followed by the doxology and benediction by Bishop Rey, and a stirring rendition of “Hallelujah Chorus” by the IRM Marikina Senior Choir. This ended the first part of the celebration.

The second part started with greetings, and Awards and Recognition led by Rev. Florendo Santos. This was followed by the first batch of announcement on the church assignments by Bishop Rey. After a brief interval, where Lungsod Silangan IRM performed a special number, Bishop Rey proceeded with the second batch of announcement of church assignments. Once this was finished, all the workers stood up for their oath taking, followed by a congregational singing of “Be Still My Soul.” Before the celebration ended, Deac. Mila Cortez, head of the Anniversary Committee, thanked everyone involved for their help in making the anniversary a success. IRM PAM led the congregation in singing “Your Grace Is Enough” to end the anniversary celebration.

Ondoy Relief Program of IEMELIF Canada

October 19, 2009

In order to assist Ondoy victims in Marikina and nearby areas, IEMELIF Canada sent funds to be distributed to both members and non-members who were affected by the typhoon. This initiative was made possible mainly through the efforts of Sis. Delia Sta. Romana and Rev. Eli Diolanda, who are both former members of IEMELIF Marikina before migrating to Canada.

A total of 300 families were given stubs (for 500 pesos each) and asked to return on Sunday, October 18, at 1 in the afternoon. The program started with fellowship songs by Bro. Mark Soriano. Sis. Blessie Mauricio, head of IRM Marikina’s Social Concern Department, explained how IEMELIF Canada decided to send financial support to help the relief operations of IRM Marikina. Afterwards, a short evangelistic message by Rev. Nehemias Martin followed where he told the listeners how regrettable it would be if they left the church building with only the cash gift but not the best gift of all – the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Many responded to the altar call and accepted Christ as their Savior and Lord.

To keep good order during the distribution, the list was divided into three groups with assigned “cashiers” for each: Deac. Tirse Carpio and Sis. Blessie Mauricio for stubs number 1-100, Sis. Chiqui Francisco (sibling of Sis. Delia) and Sis. Renette Domingo-Francisco for stubs number 101-200, and Sis. Ruby Flores (sibling of Sis. Delia) and Sis. Rubie Ann Santos for stubs number 201-300. Each recipient was asked to submit their stub and sign on a monitoring sheet once the love gift was received.

Councilor Lea Carlos, the treasurer of IRM Marikina and city councilor of District I of Marikina, also distributed love gifts to all the children.

We would like to thank IEMELIF Canada for being a financial and spiritual blessing to Ondoy victims and IRM Marikina. Let’s pray that those who accepted Christ may fully understand the grace of God and continue to grow in faith.

Below are some pictures from the project. More pictures will be uploaded once the photo gallery is up.

Relief Operations in IRM Cainta

October 17, 2009

Two weeks after the devastation brought by Typhoon Ondoy, IRM Cainta through the generosity of IRM Singapore and PAGCOR, distributed relief goods to the community.

Prior to the relief operation, Rev. Joma and Deac. Joy Carillo visited the neighboring areas that were most affected by the heavy flood, and invited contacts to attend the Sunday worship service. Last October 11, almost 400 people came to the morning service and listened as Bishop Reynaldo Domingo shared the Gospel and invited them to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

After the service, the members of IRM Cainta helped to distribute relief packs containing 3 kilos of rice, instant noodles, canned goods and sugar. The relief packs came from PAGCOR through Arch. Jeremias Cruz, an active church elder and Bishop Domingo’s second cousin. In addition to the relief packs, cash was also given to 265 adults (50 pesos each) and 120 children (20 pesos each), which came from the financial assistance sent by IRM Singapore.

We would like to thank IRM Singapore and Arch. Jerry Cruz for giving IRM Cainta the privilege of being a channel of blessing to Ondoy victims in the neighborhood. Not only did it introduce the church to the community, it also gave IRM Cainta the opportunity to share the Good News of salvation to others. Let’s pray that those who accepted Christ may continue to grow in faith especially as they try to rebuild their lives after Ondoy.

Below are some pictures from the project. More pictures will be uploaded once the photo gallery is up.
