About Speaking in Tongues

This question is from For counselling received on 22 January 2009 at 8:20 PM.

Bishop
is speaking in tongues really 1 of proofs dat a man is baptized in d spirit?
Isnt it dat its more impt f a man has d fruits of d Holy Spirit in him?
It is sad to tel u dat dat is what other pastors of irm are claiming-the emphasis of tounges

Dear For counseling,

Thank you for your question.

1. Speaking in tongues is not necessarily the proof of the fullness or baptism of the Holy Spirit. There are those who were baptized by the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues, but there are those who were not.

2. Acts 1:8 told us that the proof of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is power - ”and you will receive power…” It is power over sin, power to live a holy life, power over Satan and his host.

3. If possible, please text me and tell me who are those pastors who are claiming that speaking in tongues is the proof of being baptized by the Holy Spirit. My number is 0920-8400164.

Yours in behalf of the million of crying Filipinos,

BISHOP REYNALDO DOMINGO
Chairman, IRM Church

Isn’t the proof of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit = Bearing Fruit.

Speaking in tongues was only manifested in 3 situations according to Acts 2, 10, 19. Paul dealt with the abuse of tongues in I Cor. 12-14.

  2. Bishop Rey says:

Yes, you are right that bearing fruit is a proof of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. As I have said, power is another proof. — Power to witness for the Lord by life and by words, power to overcome sin in one’s life (holiness), power over the enemy (Satan and his host), are proofs of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
